A year after leaving the Democratic Alliance (DA) for the Patriotic Alliance (PA), Liam Jacobs has officially returned to the DA.
His return comes after a dramatic exit in which he accused the DA of using him as a coloured leader to attract votes. At the time, Jacobs said he felt restricted within the party and declared that he was “finally free” after leaving.
Now, his political comeback has raised fresh questions about what changed.
The DA has welcomed Jacobs back, with Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis among those publicly celebrating his return. However, some critics argue that the reasons Jacobs gave for leaving the party were never fully addressed.
Others believe his move back to the DA may reflect disappointment with what he found in the PA after joining Gayton McKenzie’s party.
While the DA gains back a well-known young political figure, questions remain about whether voters will see the return as a second chance or a political retreat.
