Maritzburg College delivered one of the biggest schoolboy rugby results of the weekend, beating previously unbeaten Hilton College 14–9 in a tense Midlands derby on 30 May 2026.
The fixture carried extra weight because it was played on Maritzburg College’s Reunion Day, giving the match a bigger crowd, bigger pressure and a bigger stage.
Hilton came into the clash unbeaten, which made the result even more significant. They arrived with momentum, but College managed to turn the occasion into a statement win.
The 14–9 scoreline tells the story of a tight and physical contest. This was not a runaway result. It was a grind, decided by discipline, territory, defence and small moments.
For Maritzburg College, the win will mean more than just another victory on the season calendar. Beating an unbeaten Hilton side on Reunion Day strengthens their standing in the KZN schoolboy rugby conversation.
For Hilton, the unbeaten run is over, but the narrow margin shows they remain one of the strongest school rugby sides in the province.
The result now adds more spice to the season. College have made their statement, Hilton have been brought back into the pack, and the debate over KZN’s top school side is far from settled.
