Newcastle KZN continues to prove why it is one of South Africa’s proud football towns.
Nkosikhona Ndaba has joined the special list of Newcastle footballers who have won a South African top-flight league title, after winning the Betway Premiership with Orlando Pirates.
He now stands alongside Newcastle legends who carried the town’s name with pride at different clubs and in different eras.
Newcastle’s top-flight league champions include Samora Khulu, who played for Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu; Fani Madida, who represented Kaizer Chiefs, Beşiktaş and Antalyaspor; Helman Mkhalele, who played for Jomo Cosmos, Orlando Pirates and Kayserispor; and Sizwe Motaung, who featured for Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Tenerife.
The list also includes Paul Evans, who played for Wits, Leeds United, SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns; Siyabonga Nkosi, who represented Bloemfontein Celtic, Kaizer Chiefs, Arminia Bielefeld and Golden Arrows; and Sifiso Hlanti, who played for AmaZulu, Golden Arrows, Bidvest Wits, Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs.
Ndaba, who has played for Richards Bay and Orlando Pirates, now adds his name to that proud roll of honour.
From Chiefs to Pirates, Sundowns to Wits, and even overseas, Newcastle’s football sons have left their mark across the game.
